Here we have typified very beautifully the manhood and deity
of the Lord Jesus. The shittim wood, the imperishable acacia wood of the
desert, sets forth the humanity of our blessed Lord; the pure gold, His deity;
the crown, or ledge of gold, round about teaches how God would jealously guard
these great truths of the humanity and deity of the Lord Jesus.
The ark of the testimony is Christ,
the testimony referring to the two tables of stone.
Also called Ark of God
Also called Ark of Jehovah
Also called Ark of the Covenant
After the incident of the golden calf, Moses made an ark of
shittim wood and placed the two tables of stone in it, thus showing that the
law pure and simple was never given, but that God had Christ and the way of
blessing in sovereign grace before Him. The interval between Moses receiving
the Law and the setting up of the Tabernacle was thus mercifully bridged, and
God’s relationship with His people was established.
